This Harold Budd album stands a cut above his other works. As per usual, the tunes are slow-moving and few and far between, but he does a bang-up job of setting a certain 'vibe' or 'atmosphere'. He keeps the effects to a bare minimum, which really helps to avoid that "just throwing effects in for the sake of it" vibe. The main effect he uses is a 'wow' or slight pitch shifting on a piano that's dark in tone but recorded up close. The final few tracks are all string quartet pieces, and they're really quite good. Again, the sound is subtly tweaked to be both veiled and distant at the same time. All things considered, it's pretty darn luxurious stuff for a solo effort.
