Lemonade remains a beloved beverage, and this pressing doesn't disappoint. Guru's vocals are front and center, as they ought to be. No warping here, but since it's white, it's a bit tricky to spot the grime. Give it a good clean and swap out those inner sleeves.
Gang Starr's new album is a darker, rougher follow-up to 'Daily Operation'...it picks up right where that one ended. Absolutely essential for any hip-hop fan's collection. Premier's production and Guru's grown-up flow and lyrics...just pure classic stuff!
I received my order with two copies of disc number two and no disc one. Not happy with the 'respect the classics' collection, I also attempted two separate copies of the Roots 'Do u want more' and both had numerous skips, I'll steer clear of 'respect the classics' from this point forward.
This is a grimy, raw hip-hop album that's definitely one of my top picks from the '90s. The opening four tracks are an unstoppable wave of top-notch hip-hop. Guru's voice is noticeably grittier and rougher than on his earlier work. His lyrics have leveled up here, tackling social and political issues, plus the downsides of the music biz ("Mass Appeal"). It's a hip-hop essential, a true classic. My standout tracks are "Alongwaytogo," "Tons O' Guns," "Brainstorm," and "Code Of The Streets.
My copy has the numbers 7243 8 28435 2 8 on both the CD and the inserts, yet it claims "printed in Holland". Furthermore, the label is marked as CHRYSALIS RECORDS/ERG.
