There's not much left to express about this album that hasn't already been voiced. Smooth sax, relaxed beats, floating basslines, clever & alluring lyrics/singing. I've got every Morphine release, but 'Good' kicked off this entire sultry, slow-burning adventure. Whenever I feel the ache of today's cholesterol-heavy, multilingual "flavors of the week" (or, as my 10 year old kid pointed out when he declared, "there's way too many bands"), I just load up my playlist with a 5-CD batch of Morphine, or pop on a record and pour myself a glass of scotch. Like a gradual morphine drip, it definitely eases my discomfort.
This one's sound is way better than my white MOV 2021 version, you can really tell the difference, it's quieter and has a "warmer" tone. BUT, the graphics are different, and I don't get why they didn't stick with the same as the MOV 2021(!) This one's much darker, with a yellowish tint, way more contrast, and looks like a cheap knockoff. It's really bad in comparison. But the lyric insert is brighter and more blue-ish? What were they thinking? Now I've got two copies of this awesome album. One sounds bad but has great graphics, the other sounds great but has terrible graphics. Oh, the struggle.
Morphine's 'Good' is an absolute triumph, a unique blend of moody, mysterious, spacious, graceful, gritty, revelatory, beautiful zero gravity. Though their entire discography is outstanding, their first album, 'Good', serves as the grand statement that shaped everything that followed.
This album sounds absolutely fantastic, with a pressing that's completely noise-free and offers impressive punch and dynamics. The tracklist is simply wonderful. It's easily one of the top alternative albums from the '90s and a must-own for any music enthusiast!
I reckon the main unit is digital, which might explain the somewhat restricted range - but even so, it sounds fantastic and I've got no issues with it. No faults or problems. I just wish MOV would use better quality sleeves. They feel cheap and the artwork's often a crap scan, which seems to be the case here. I'm happy with it overall.
