Got my copy the day before. It arrived in a thin, resealable plastic outer sleeve with a hype sticker on the front and a barcode on the back. The album cover has a 2" tear along the top seam due to the loose packaging, plus a couple of 2" scratches on the back. The insert/lyric sheet is also quite creased, like someone struggled to fit it into the jacket multiple times. The records were kept in rough, round-edged paper sleeves. Sounds terrible so far, right? But I gave the album a listen, and in my opinion, it's way better than the standard 2012 pressing, and it feels more substantial. The vinyl color is a nice, bright red (similar to Gorillaz's Plastic Beach and Green Day's American Idiot from Walmart). Apart from the foil-stamped numbering on the back, the "AK" logo on the front is also foil-stamped, which is a nice detail, similar to what they did with Songs in A Minor. So yeah, the album packaging is a 5/10. But the sound quality is an 8-9/10 for me. UPDATE: Received a replacement order and was able to keep the original copy. The replacement was packaged the same way but, for some odd reason, arrived in better condition. The only difference is that there's no seam tear on top and no creases or scratches on the jacket. I also got a lower foil stamp number, 0154/2000, which is pretty cool.
The record I got is flawless, excellent quality... and the cover's in mint condition too. Absolutely thrilled to have this in my collection!
My vinyl record is horrendous, it's got so much surface noise - it's unbelievable. I'm aware VMP isn't what it once was, but wow, this is a new low point.
The vinyl's a bit grimy, par for the course from United Record Pressing, but it sounds fantastic, and the jacket's got a sweet embossed design. A gatefold would've been ideal to hold these two chunky records. They nailed it better with "The Diary of Alicia Keys," though. All in all, a great record!
#1779 here. Those paper sleeves are a real pain in the packaging. I made sure to give everything a thorough brushing before my first go, and it all sounds fantastic. I'd definitely tell any fan who's into it to go ahead and buy it.
