Among the greatest Pianist solo concert albums out there. John Cale truly shines here. It's not just me saying this is the ultimate cover of Hallelujah, even Leonard Cohen, the song's creator, favored this version. Brian Eno makes a special guest appearance. I strongly recommend getting the DVD, as it features more tracks. Absolutely phenomenal concert.
I'm aware that Cale might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this live album could very well be his most approachable work yet. All by his lonesome, with Cale alternating between guitar and piano, he takes us through songs from his entire career. This record is absolutely one of my favorites - it's just one stellar performance after another. My copy is pristine and noise-free, and Cale's sound is fantastic. It's a live album, so it naturally has that live feel. If you've got even a hint of interest in Cale, you've got to give this a listen.
This edition boasts a much improved sound quality compared to the CD, which was a tad muffled. The track listing has been rearranged to better reflect the atmosphere of a typical John Cale concert from that era. Plus, they've included a different, more immersive (in my opinion) take on "Heartbreak Hotel." The editing is a bit odd, with some abrupt fadeouts and cuts in the applause that seem unnecessary, though it might be an artistic choice, given the word "fragments" in the title. Still, this is a fantastic revised version, with the vinyl sounding incredibly good. Cale guides you through his musical world with this record. It's my personal favorite of all time.
Domino also sent me a ZIP file after I reached out to support. Everything's working great. Domino's support is good.
