This 1972 gem by Pat Martino pays a wonderful homage to Wes Montgomery. Backed by a second guitarist, bassist, and drummer, the ensemble gives off a guitar trio atmosphere. The music swings from laid-back to frenzied and moody, classic Martino style. While Pat showcases his impressive skills with lengthy passages and crisp licks, I think he's holding back a touch, respecting the tribute nature of the album rather than flaunting his incredible technique. The song selection is spot-on. Martino truly captures Wes' essence at times, even nailing those signature octaves. I'm a huge fan of Billy Higgins' drumming, but the bassist isn't my cup of tea—he's a bit distracting for my taste. The recording quality is solid, though there's some clipping on certain peaks. Overall, it's a great listen. Highly recommend it.
