If Manowar's intensity is too much for you, then you shouldn't listen to them at all. It's like saying Conan the movie is over the top—that's the whole point! There's nothing funny about their music... maybe it's just too much for mainstream tastes. As Dio once sang, "If you don't like R'n'R, it's too late now." Personally, this is the only album by them that disappointed me; it feels like there's not enough substance. The last track is the only one that's 100%, but by then it's too little, too late. I also hated the singles from this album—they were too radio-friendly. But "Defender" is a solid track. The rest of the songs are too much of a verse-chorus formula. This album is only 50% as good as "Into Glory Ride," which is their masterpiece. They did release better albums after this one. Manowar always stays true to metal, unlike bands that fake it to make it. That goes for every hair metal band to extreme metal band—you can always tell who's real. Back when this album came out, metal was my religion. You can never fake metal.
These pressings are absolutely fantastic! The sound quality is superb, bringing out the music with a loud, clear, and impressive bass separation.
Man, this album is freakin' awesome if you're a fan of that classic ManOwaR cheesy metal sound. But here's the bummer - it's a Back On Black reissue, so you're stuck with that thin, CD-quality high-end treble. Do yourself a favor and track down an original 1987 pressing instead.
Owners of this edition, feel free to share your thoughts on the pressing quality, any inserts included, and how it stacks up against the original pressings.
My vinyl is perfect. Great pressing. Perhaps the whole production could use a tad more dynamics.
