This album is an amazing collection of tracks. It's like Pet Shop Boys, David Bowie, and Kraftwerk had a musical jam session... If you're a fan of 'Major Tom', you'll absolutely adore this album. In the English version, there are two tracks leading up to it, setting the scene both in space and possibly explaining why Major Tom ends up 'floating in a tin can'. Later on, the German version of the album shuffles the track order, but it does include two 12" mixes of the album's singles. If you're going to mix up an album's track order (and only on the German version, mind you), you might as well have included the English language 12" of 'Major Tom' with the rest of the English version and placed 'Stille Nacht Heilige Nacht' at the end of the German album. It's a shame this isn't a double CD, leaving both albums untouched, and maybe omitting the doublers (Major Tom II and Stille Nacht Heilige Nacht from the English version if necessary). Missing are the English and German 'edited' versions of 'Major Tom' at around 4.00 minutes each (with the English 'edited' version uniquely featuring one German phrase 'Vollig Losgelost' at the end), as well as the German B-Side to the original 'Major Tom' German 12" & CD single ('... dann trügt der Schein'), which would have been great additions. The album version of 'Die Wüste Lebt' would have been best left as is, rather than being replaced with the 12". The instrumental version of 'Major Tom' should have been cut if a one-disc version is the only option, replaced with any of the above. There's a nice short booklet with some 7" & 12" artwork, but unfortunately no lyrics. Still, I highly recommend this album as every song has musical merit, if you're a fan of 'eighties' music that is, (although 'Silent Night' seems strangely out of place).
The main draw here is Major Tom. Side one's kinda cool. It brought back memories of some techno tracks I made years back - which, let's be honest, weren't that great. But Major Tom? Absolutely fantastic!
STYLE : 😳🔫💨Somehow got through (Let's Play) USA...now onto side B.
it's still possible to snag this bad boy for a mere $3, and it's top-notch for audiophiles
Well, I stepped away and came back to Stille Naght, Heilige Naght. "I got it, let's finish with the German take on Silent Night, Holy Night"😳😳😳
