Like I mentioned before, this one ought to have been a 2xlp. Once it hits the middle of the record, the sound quality takes a real nosedive. I reckon record labels are too caught up in the looks and overlooking what matters most: that amazing sound quality we all love in vinyls.
Quite a bit of hissing present even post-cleaning, shame that digital download cards aren't included with releases these days. I'd love for the cover to match the clear photo in the inserts, BUT I'm still genuinely thrilled to own this pressing and album! It's got me dreaming about renting a place in Palm Springs. Update: I gave it an additional dry brush and it did make a difference on the next playthrough. Some tracks are still a tad fuzzy but at least it's much more enjoyable to listen to now! (other records sound great, so it's not my setup)
I wasn't actually planning to buy this, but the feedback on the sound got me really curious. Plus, the packaging looked cool, so I thought, why not give it a shot? Sound-wise, it's not spectacular, but it's not *that* terrible either. There's some noticeable inner groove distortion, but I expected it to be way worse. It's actually quite tolerable. If you're a fan of the album, this version is okay. I'm hoping for a better release in the future, but I'm not too bothered by this one. P.S. - I almost forgot to mention, "River" sounds TERRIBLE. I'm not sure what's up with it, but it seems like it wasn't mixed at all. The vocals in the verses are super quiet for no apparent reason, and it's just really odd.
Packaging deserves a 5 star rating. Inner sleeve is printed, comes with a photo booklet and a poster containing lyrics. The vinyl is nicely thick, and the color is perfect. Cracks and pops are minimal, barely noticeable, and only present on a few tracks. However, it's evident that this pressing was sourced from a digital master. It sounds a bit dull and muffled, with a lower volume. Her vocals can't be singled out, which is a pity because the album is fantastic. Distortion becomes more apparent as you reach the inner grooves.
Super silent pressing! They really nailed the quality on this. I'm in love with it!
