Well, I recently purchased this album (still sealed, surprisingly) after stumbling upon Clarence Carter by accident while looking for something else. After repeatedly listening to his 1968 album 'This Is Clarence Carter', I decided to give this one a try to see if it could live up to the standards set by his first record. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark for me and ended up feeling like a cheesy Lionel Richie-style 80s R&B album. Maybe I'm disappointed because this isn't the soulful, bluesy Clarence I'm accustomed to, but I think this is a pretty poor album. It just feels off; Clarence is usually a fun guy, and in the albums I know him from, he was singing upbeat tracks with silly lyrics, but here, combined with the synths, it all sounds dated and like a tired formula that many pop artists were using at the time.
