  • Perfect Analog Club Capture

    5 out of 5 stars

Absolutely stunning. This all-analog recording captures the magic of that night at the club perfectly. Quiet, smooth press.

  • Original Outshines Reissue

    5 out of 5 stars
    daassavcq5 July 2025United States🇺🇸

After comparing this to my original, I've become more critical of these reissues. I'm sorry, but the original just sounds warmer, more dynamic, and has way more power. It completely overshadows this reissue. They're alright for the price, sure, but don't expect anything more than a decent reissue.

  • Heavyweight Release Highly Recommended

    5 out of 5 stars
    qoxopep21 May 2025United States🇺🇸

The only "issue" I have with this fantastic, heavyweight release, packed with world-class music, is that the record weighs in at 186 grams instead of 180, LOL. So, 10 out of 10, highly recommended!

  • Horace Silver Live Electric

    4 out of 5 stars
    teraMQ_15 May 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

WOW, what an electrifying live performance at the Village Gate with Horace Silver, Blue Mitchell, and the gang! This is a MONO recording, masterfully mixed and a fantastic pressing. From the get-go, this band is sizzling with well-crafted arrangements, relaxed improvisation, and incredible energy. Blue Mitchell is on fire, and so is Junior Cook on tenor. Horace pounds those keys with such power, yet his lines are so precise and expressive. Side A is an absolute masterpiece, full throttle, and even a mighty drum solo on "Doin' The Thing" (and again on "The Gringo"). "Filthy McNasty" is a brilliantly arranged piece with tight ensemble playing and dazzling improv. Side B turns it down a notch, but not by much. "The Theme" answers the question, "can hard boppers really bebop?" Apparently they can. Jazz is all about the live experience, and even the most well-intentioned studio albums can't quite capture the spirit and daring of a great live set. Compared to other high-energy Horace Silver classics like "Sister Sadie", "Nica's Dream", and "Senor Blues", this album has it all and more. This is the '62 first repress. The sound quality is stunningly good. There's a bit of clipping on the tenor at times, but that happened during recording. Highly recommended!

  • Affordable Loud and Crisp Album

    5 out of 5 stars
    Oaligi_Pekiwvw31 March 2025United States🇺🇸

Awesome album and pressing, it sounds loud and crisp. My copy is DG side 2 only, which is different from the pics for reference. An incredible set that's still somewhat affordable in 2025. Grab one while you still can!
