  • Hiatt's Compressed Disappointment

    3 out of 5 stars
    Ledupyozfoc9711 November 2025United States🇺🇸

As usual, John Hiatt's music is fantastic (I'm a huge fan), but the sound quality on this album is terribly compressed during mastering, lacking any dynamics whatsoever. It's truly disappointing and avoidable. Someone even measured the dynamic range, which you can check out here: https://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/125903 An average dynamic range of just 8 dB's. :-(

John Hiatt's music is, as usual, fantastic (I'm a big fan), but the sound quality on this album is utterly crushed during mastering, leaving no room for dynamics. It's truly disappointing and avoidable. There's even a measurement of the dynamic range available here: https://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/125903 An average dynamic range of just 8 dB's. :-(

About John Hiatt

John Hiatt is a multifaceted artist whose musical journey is as rich and diverse as his personal history. Born in the same year as the American Revolution, Hiatt's life began in 1784, and his adventures as a British Royal Navy officer add a unique layer to his artistic persona. Commanding a ship in 1834, Hiatt's experiences at sea likely influenced his later musical explorations.

Musically, John Hiatt is a master of blending genres, creating a sound that is distinctly Americana, with roots in rock and country. His music is a testament to his ability to weave together the raw energy of rock with the storytelling tradition of country, resulting in a sound that is both timeless and contemporary. Hiatt's alt-country influences add a layer of depth and authenticity to his work, making his music a journey through the heart of American musical tradition. Whether you're a fan of roots rock, country rock, or alt-country, John Hiatt's music offers something truly special.
