I'm totally on board with what everyone's saying. This record sounds amazing. I haven't got anything else to match it up with, but I just can't imagine it sounding any better than this.
Amazing. I must say, I'm happily surprised. Swapped out my 45rpm MFSL record for this one, which wasn't all that quiet and I'm not a fan of the format anyhow. For half the cost, I couldn't be more content. It's everything I wanted. Case closed.
Ugh, nothing ruins the excitement of a fresh, new album like discovering dust bits and scratches on the sleeve. It reminded me of the Communique record from this collection, but it wasn't as severe. I guess I'll have to grab a decent cleaner and call it a day. On the bright side, everything else is perfect. This is exactly why I'm all about vinyl. One of my top-XX favorite albums of all time has never sounded this incredible to my aging ears. Initially, I thought it didn't measure up to Communique, but boy, was I mistaken. And for just $18? That's a steal!
SONICALLY: This album is spot-on. Each instrument is performed with a jagged intensity and crispness that makes the tunes irresistible to dance to. It doesn't skimp on catchy riffs and vocal hooks that make you want to join in. It was so impressive that at one point I realized my record started spinning from around once every couple of seconds to once every blink of an eye. It was so swift that a breeze escaped from my turntable, propelling me backward at unfathomable velocities. This wasn't a turntable glitch, it was a heavenly sign in its most unadulterated form. A message from the musical deities. They had taken notice of me, but also my music and the melodies emanating from my Amazon speakers. This wasn't a hallucination, it was genuine. The musical gods we've all shrugged off as laughably implausible jokes, had unveiled their work in my honor. As this was unfolding, as I was perched on the hardwood floor the record had just launched me towards, I witnessed it, the most sacred form of musical sanctity. He opened a door from a realm I couldn't see, or perhaps just couldn't fathom. First was his foot, it landed a meter from my turntable. Then both feet, then his legs became visible, up to his torso. His body was see-through, with a blue glow. He was unclothed, a bare figure, his skin like frosted glass. His movements seemed to be in the slowest possible motion, and simultaneously, at a speed humans have yet to achieve. The kind of vision you read about in novels. Except, this wasn't a novel. During this time, the album "Dire Straits" was still playing. In a muffled, echoey format, I became aware, more than I'd ever been in my entire life. This encounter and experience was as real as American Jail. Now, feeling the pressure found miles beneath the ocean's surface, I was prepared. I knew what was coming, and I wasn't going to try to halt it. THE PRESSING: The entire album played very cleanly. No problems with the pressing.
When you put this up against the Because Sound Matters version, you might notice a tad more depth and width in the soundstage, a touch more clarity and detail, but the tonality just feels off! The treble is way too bright and harsh, even a bit sibilant at times. The vinyl's flat and quiet, but the sound is an 8/10 for me... In the end, I stuck with Because Sound Matters, it just sounds more natural and right to me. I even sold my Mofi 45RPM. Using Vertere DG-1, Nagaoka MP-500, Vertere Phono-1 MkII L, Naim Uniti Nova, Sonner Allegro Unum.
