  • Piano-Backed Brilliance

A impressive first album, the songs shine brightest when Towner is backed by piano, which he also plays with great skill. Thoughtful and lyrical tunes.

  • Towner's Piano Brilliance

    5 out of 5 stars
    _Ufjdugipegi_13 May 2025United States🇺🇸

Among Towner's finest works, this one truly showcases his skills as a versatile multi-instrumentalist. I'd love to hear an entire album dedicated to his piano playing, as the tracks where he focuses solely on it are such a pleasant surprise (like 'The Silence Of A Candle'). A must-have for anyone's 70's ECM collection.

  • Towner's Introspective Masterpiece

    3 out of 5 stars
    puyaGR_17 December 2024United States🇺🇸

I'm checking out a second copy, this time labeled PROMO. It's an exceptionally clean pressing with silent vinyl. The guitar sounds absolutely fantastic. I'm a big fan of Ralph Towner's music, and I'm particularly fond of ECM's 1970s releases. This album is a perfect fit. It's got that dark, introspective vibe, like Ralph tracked his guitar one day and then his piano the next. I have so much respect for his incredible instrumental talents. Both instruments are recorded brilliantly, with a bright and natural sound. The guitar has a rich low end, which is great. The stereo separation is nice, though it's not too hard to achieve with just two instruments. Some really creative guitar effects are used well, especially on "Erg.

  • Guitar Effects Shine Bright

The instruments sound fantastic, bright and natural. The guitar has a great low end, which is really pleasant. The stereo separation is well done, though it's not too hard with just two people. There are some cool guitar effects used really well, particularly on "Erg". Pressing is good. Highly recommended.
