Product Description

Christopher Rouse's "Transfiguration" is a captivating journey through the world of contemporary classical music, released on September 29, 2009, under the eOne Music International Classics label. This album showcases Rouse's exceptional talent as a composer, featuring two complete string quartets that are both technically demanding and deeply expressive.

The first quartet, composed of six movements, begins with "Variazioni I," a lively and intricate set of variations that immediately draws the listener in. The second movement, "Fantasma Di Bartok I," offers a haunting and mysterious atmosphere, while "Variazioni Piccoli" brings a playful and energetic vibe. The quartet concludes with a return to the variations in "Variazioni II" and a poignant "Epilogo."

The second quartet, consisting of three movements, opens with a slow and sorrowful "Adagio; Doloroso," followed by the intense and driving "Agitato." The final movement, "Largo; Lamentoso," brings the album to a close with a reflective and mournful tone.

Throughout the album, Rouse's mastery of form and structure is evident, as he weaves together complex rhythms and harmonies to create a rich and engaging musical landscape. The performances by the string quartet are impeccable, bringing out the full emotional range of Rouse's compositions. With a duration of 56 minutes, "Transfiguration" is a compelling exploration of the human experience, as seen through the lens of Christopher Rouse's unique musical vision.

About Christopher Rouse

Christopher Rouse, the celebrated American composer, left an indelible mark on the world of orchestral music with his powerful and emotionally charged compositions. Born in 1949, Rouse's work is characterized by its driving energy and, in his later years, a profound lyricism that captivated audiences. His portfolio includes a moving Requiem, a dozen concertos, and six symphonies, each piece a testament to his distinctive style. Rouse's music, often described as "fast and furious," has earned him a distinguished reputation, particularly in the United States. His contributions to the world of music were recognized with a Pulitzer Prize, and his legacy continues to inspire both colleagues and new generations of composers.
