Arve Henriksen, known for his work with Supersilent and his trumpet skills, presents this album that kicks off with "Opening Image", a mournful cry of trumpet and vocals surrounded by Ambient orchestral sounds. Next up, "Bird's Eye View" is a damp tribal reflection. "Chiaro" is even more watery and heavenly, a lonely hymn that's sometimes disturbed by mysterious digital bursts. "Holography" is a ... piece seen through the lens of New Age, Jazz, and ambient music. Employing similar methods but lacking a strong melodic focus, the 7-minute "Blue Silk" depends on its icy power to draw you in. "Parallel Action", essentially another ghostly symphonic poem, is let down by the addition of an electronic beat that disrupts the flow. However, "Circled Take", stripped back to the basics, sounds incredible (percussion mimicking the sound of sea waves, the usual trumpet lament, plus a brief, breathtaking layer of choir). "Scuro" is another shocking, though far more foreboding, atmosphere. After this threatening darkness, "Time Lapse" seems to restore the cosmic balance. And "Ending Image" signals this return to normalcy and the completion of a circle with another graceful, sad farewell. It's not that this album brings anything new to the table, it's just incredibly well-crafted.-ILY-
