Charlie Byrd - Charlie Byrd

Product Description

Charlie Byrd's self-titled album, released on January 1, 1990, under Sherman Records, is a captivating journey through the world of jazz, blending the smooth rhythms of bossa nova with the rich textures of Brazilian and Latin jazz. Clocking in at just over 33 minutes, this concise collection of nine tracks offers a delightful exploration of cool jazz, showcasing Byrd's masterful guitar work and his ability to infuse each piece with a unique charm.

The album opens with "Moliendo Café," a classic bossa nova piece that sets the tone for the rest of the record. Byrd's guitar weaves seamlessly with the accompanying instrumentation, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. "Old Hymn" follows, offering a more introspective moment, while "At Seventeen" brings a touch of nostalgia with its gentle, melodic lines.

"Swing 39" injects a bit of energy into the mix, showcasing Byrd's versatility as a guitarist. The title track, "It's All Clear to Me Now," is a standout, featuring a beautiful interplay between Byrd's guitar and the other instruments. "Something," a cover of the Beatles classic, is given a fresh, jazzy twist, while "Moonlight Serenade" offers a lush, orchestral feel.

The album closes with "This Can't Be Love" and "Mama I'll Be Home Someday," both of which highlight Byrd's ability to convey deep emotion through his playing. Throughout the album, Byrd's skillful musicianship and his knack for blending different jazz styles make for a listening experience that is both engaging and satisfying. Whether you're a longtime fan of Charlie Byrd or a newcomer to his music, this album is sure to leave you impressed and eager to hear more.

This LP was released in 1980.

  • Audio Quality Shines

    2 out of 5 stars
    Zubzxoffexohx5 October 2025United States🇺🇸

I concur with the prior comment: Though I might label the music as "elevator background" as we term it in Germany, the audio quality is superb and a sufficient justification to retain it. This is a "direct disc" recording, and one can truly sense the band performing together in the studio, which appears to create a unique "you're there" atmosphere, distinct from live and vastly different from typical studio productions. Exceptionally well executed, and I presume the pressing is equally outstanding.

  • A1 & A2 Dynamic Mastery

    4 out of 5 stars
    ogeg184 October 2025United States🇺🇸

Tracks A1 & A2 have an extremely wide sound dynamic range. Every instrument was captured with a full dynamic spectrum. The percussion solo is incredibly impressive. The B-side, however, is far less impactful. The dynamics appear squashed, and the transparency is reduced.

  • Audio Quality Outstanding

I concur with the prior comment: Though I might label the music as "elevator background" music, as we say in Germany, the audio quality is outstanding and alone worth keeping. This is a "direct disc" recording, and you can truly sense the band performing together in the studio, which creates a unique "you're there" atmosphere, distinct from live performances and far removed from typical studio productions. Exceptionally well executed, and I suspect the pressing is equally superb.

Listening to this with my Stax headphones...WOW... absolutely incredible sound!! Such happy music!! Play this during dinner and it's like having a live performance in your living room... amazing restaurant vibes at home...You'll adore it )) HAVE FUN !!

  • Dynamic A-Side, Weak B-Side

    4 out of 5 stars
    onod4426 October 2024United States🇺🇸

The dynamic range on tracks A1 & A2 is exceptionally high. Every instrument was captured with a full dynamic range. The percussion solo is truly impressive. However, the B-side is quite underwhelming. The dynamics appear to be compressed, and the transparency is noticeably degraded.
