Carmen's early '80s album showcases her talent alongside an incredible lineup of musicians, with some truly inventive arrangements. Jazz legends Larry Carlton and Joe Sample are part of this fantastic ensemble. Her voice is absolutely stunning, though the doubling on the opening track feels a bit too wide for my taste. Thad Jones' arrangement of Bill Withers' "I Wish You Love" is an electrifying funky twist that's absolutely brilliant. "All By Myself" starts off slow but gradually unfolds into something truly captivating. I picked up this record specifically for "A Child is Born," a McCrae track I've adored for ages. Carmen's rendition is nothing short of extraordinary. The sound quality is excellent, with mastering by Bernie Grundman and a pressing that's spot on. Highly recommended!
