At first, this album didn't resonate with me, but then I found myself absolutely loving it. How could you not love a track about ELO? “It’s Money That I Love” is an amazing 70’s vibe. “Pretty Boy” has this chilling edge. The entire first side is fantastic. I think watching him perform on SNL, doing three (or was it four?) songs live, was the turning point for me. You can still snag a copy for a steal, so grab one now. It might take a few years to truly appreciate it, but trust me, you'll be glad you have it when you do. And let's not forget, you also get “Pants”.
This is a strong addition to Newman's discography, although it's not my top pick from his collection. It leans more towards hard rock with some captivating guitar solos, but I'm more drawn to his solo piano or vaudeville ensemble tracks. As expected, the standout for me is the moving, somber ballad "Ghosts". The recording quality is superb with a crisp, clean mix that packs a punch. The pressing is excellent, no issues here.
