Product Description

James Ehnes, the acclaimed Canadian violinist, presents a captivating album featuring two remarkable works: Leonard Bernstein's Serenade and John Williams' Violin Concerto No. 1. Released on April 26, 2024, under the Pentatone label, this album is a testament to Ehnes' virtuosity and musical depth, spanning the genres of chamber music and classical.

The album opens with Bernstein's Serenade, a piece inspired by Plato's Symposium, where each movement is named after one of the speakers in the dialogue. The five movements, ranging from Lento to Allegro, showcase a blend of introspection and exuberance, with Ehnes' expressive playing bringing out the nuances of each character. The second half of the album features Williams' Violin Concerto No. 1, a work that is both lyrical and dramatic. The three movements, from Moderato to a finale that shifts from Maestoso to a Quick tempo, demonstrate Ehnes' technical prowess and emotional range.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 1 minute, this album is a journey through two significant works in the violin repertoire, performed by one of today's most respected violinists. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or new to the genre, James Ehnes' interpretation of these pieces is sure to leave a lasting impression.
