Product Description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of chamber music with Joseph Szigeti's remarkable album, released on November 8, 2020, under the Altair label. This album is a testament to Szigeti's virtuosity and his deep connection with the violin, featuring a stunning collection of sonatas and rhapsodies that showcase his technical prowess and artistic sensitivity.

The album opens with Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 9 in A Major, Op. 47, a piece that is as demanding as it is rewarding. Szigeti's live performance of this sonata is a masterclass in musical interpretation, with each movement—Adagio Sostenuto - Presto, Andante Con Variazioni, and Finale (Presto)—revealing new layers of depth and nuance.

Following Beethoven, the album delves into the rich, folk-inspired melodies of Bartók's Rhapsody No. 1 for Violin and Piano, Sz. 87. Szigeti's rendition of the Lassú and Friss movements is both lively and evocative, capturing the essence of Bartók's unique musical language.

The album continues with Debussy's Violin Sonata, L. 140, a piece that is as delicate as it is complex. Szigeti's performance of the Allegro Vivo, Intermède - Fantasque Et Léger, and Finale: Très Animé movements is a study in precision and expressiveness, showcasing his ability to bring out the subtle nuances of Debussy's music.

Finally, the album concludes with Bartók's Violin Sonata No. 2, Sz. 76. Szigeti's live performance of the Molto Moderato and Allegretto movements is a powerful and moving experience, demonstrating his deep understanding of Bartók's musical style and his ability to convey the full range of human emotion through his playing.

With a total runtime of 1 hour and 9 minutes, this album is a journey through some of the most beautiful and challenging works in the violin repertoire. Whether you're a seasoned chamber music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, Joseph Szigeti's album is sure to captivate and inspire.
