Barney crafted numerous excellent albums for Contemporary. This live performance dates back to 1960, featuring Barney as both band leader and arranger, along with flute, bass, and drums. The energy is infectious, and the soloists truly shine. Standout tracks include "Joy Spring" and "Now's The Time"; the latter incorporates a classic [James Bond] trope into the melody, adding an air of intrigue. Barney's playing exudes a powerful sense of swing, making it a joy to listen to. The sound quality surpasses my expectations. It's well-balanced, though I'd prefer a touch less flute in the ensemble. Barney's ES-350 guitar tone is massive and occasionally dominates the mix. The vinyl pressing is satisfactory. Four stars. Highly recommended.
