Product Description

Johnny Paycheck's "At Carnegie Hall," released on May 1, 1966, under Gusto Records Inc., is a quintessential collection of classic country tunes that encapsulate the raw, unfiltered spirit of outlaw country and honky-tonk. This album, spanning a concise 38 minutes, is a testament to Paycheck's ability to blend traditional country with the gritty, rebellious edge that would later define his career.

From the opening track "King Of The Road" to the poignant "Ballad Of The Green Berets," Paycheck's vocals are a powerful force, delivering stories of love, loss, and life with a distinctive twang and an authentic charm. The album features a mix of upbeat tracks like "Bayou Bum" and "Big Town Baby," showcasing Paycheck's knack for storytelling, and slower, more reflective pieces such as "Handcuffed To Love" and "Understanding Makes Love," which highlight his emotional depth and vulnerability.

Johnny Paycheck's unique voice and style shine through in every track, making this a standout piece in the genre. Whether you're a longtime fan of classic country or a newcomer looking to explore the roots of outlaw country, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.

Heads up, the album's name is quite deceiving. This isn't a live album but Paycheck's first studio record. The music is solid, featuring Lloyd Green prominently and a nice blend of slow ballads and upbeat tracks. Aubrey Mayhew handled production and went on to be a key player in Paycheck's career, especially through the renowned Little Darlin' records.
