This album sounds and feels fantastic, easily ranking among Mac's best three. The anniversary edition is a delight. However, shelling out 100 bucks AUD for it was ridiculous, but that's just JB-HI-FI's pricing for vinyls.
Vinyl is amazing, the guitar tones are out of this world. It's an ideal mini album to be pressed on vinyl.
This is exactly what vinyl albums should aspire to be in the modern age. The sound is crisp and full of life, making it a joy to listen to.
After gaining some more insight and familiarity, I'm revisiting my thoughts on one of my all-time favorite small albums. Upon closer listening, I've indeed picked up on some issues with the pressing, at least with my copy. It might just be a dirty record, but I'm skeptical it's deteriorated this much after so few spins. It's an odd pressing where the pops only appear during the music. Usually, the music masks these imperfections, but here they're just faintly noticeable throughout most tracks if you listen closely. That said, it's not a dealbreaker. Interestingly, I've developed a newfound appreciation for the mastering, which I initially remembered differently, thinking it was poorly mastered with a good pressing. The clear vocals and striking strings truly shine, much like the crude yet stylish jacket sleeve photos. It's a shame there's no lyrics sheet for such a brief album. Ultimately, this revisit has deepened my appreciation for the first album I ever purchased for myself, which will always have a special place in my collection and heart. Edit: After a few more plays, the crackles have nearly vanished. A good vacuum clean should make it silent, so no real pressing issues. Back to 5 stars for you! Equipment used: Rega RP1 with Rega Carbon cartridge, Cyrus 2 Amplifier, System Fidelity SF-3050 tower speakers, Custom made HQ speaker cables.
Mine's a tad bent when it comes to being perfect, but it rocks the sound department and looks awesome, so I'm cool with that!
