Product Description

André Gagnon's "Baroque" is a captivating journey through the seasons, reimagining the works of iconic Quebecois songwriters through a classical lens. Released on October 1, 2015, under the ATMA Classique label, this album is a testament to Gagnon's virtuosic composition and arrangement skills, clocking in at a concise yet satisfying 1 hour and 5 minutes.

The album is divided into two main suites. The first, "Mes quatre saisons," draws inspiration from the works of Jean-Pierre Ferland, Félix Leclerc, Claude Léveillée, and Gilles Vigneault, each season represented by three distinct pieces. Gagnon masterfully transforms these beloved songs into intricate classical compositions, arranged by Daniel Constantineau. From the delicate "Madame Cailloux" to the poignant "Mon pays," each track offers a unique blend of nostalgia and innovation.

The second suite, "Les Turluteries," pays homage to the quintessential Quebecois folk artist La Bolduc. Divided into two parts, this suite showcases a variety of traditional dance forms, including ouverture, air, gavotte, bourrée, menuet, and gigue. Arranged by Gagnon and Alexis Basque, these pieces are a delightful exploration of Quebec's rich musical heritage, infused with a Baroque sensibility.

"Baroque" is a celebration of Quebec's musical legacy, reimagined through the lens of classical composition. André Gagnon's meticulous arrangements and inventive interpretations make this album a standout in his discography, offering both familiarity and novelty in equal measure. Whether you're a fan of Quebecois music or a lover of classical compositions, "Baroque" is sure to enchant and engage.
