The album has a pleasant sound, but it raises too many queries for an AP drop. It's said to be mastered at Sterling Sound, yet I can't spot "cr" or "tr" on their engineer's page. Additionally, I'm puzzled about the choice of a budget single pocket without lamination. I do hope they're not reverting to their past habits.

I've just got this copy. The sound is crisp, quiet, and absolutely beautiful. It brings out the music's incredible detail, the air around the instruments, and the spaciousness. It's like the instruments are right there in the room with you. It's just astonishing.

Ah, this is the standout album from Jamal, widely (and rightly) hailed as his most crucial work. There's a lot out there about his brilliant take on "Poinciana," but honestly, the whole record is a gem. Israel Crosby and Vernell Fournier play off Jamal so well, forming a trio that's as tight as Evans, LaFaro, and Motian.

Got my hands on this pressing and a 1960 mono version to do a little compare and contrast. If you can snag a clean copy, this one's the champ: it's got a more lifelike, "in the room" vibe, way more oomph in the presence department, bass that's deeper and punchier, and keys that sparkle brighter. There's a touch of fuzz on the piano's high end, but it's not enough to ruin the party (might even be my stylus causing it). That 1960 copy seems to be in about the same shape and spins fine, but it's like someone draped a blanket over the mics compared to this one.
