Loved Beano? Absolutely! Move over, EC, and let PG shine. This is a fantastic Bluesbreakers album with Peter Greene all the way through. While most tracks are Mayall's compositions, there's a freshness to each one. Plus, there's an awesome Freddie King cover, "The Stumble". "Supernatural" is incredibly cool. Sounds great too. Four stars. Highly recommended.
This is an absolute gem of early British blues rock. Mayall had an incredible knack for assembling talented musicians; Aynsley Dunbar, John McVie (later of Fleetwood Mac), Peter Green (also Fleetwood Mac), and of course, the legendary Mayall himself. The vinyl record itself is quite characteristic of its time. It's got a mid-heavy sound, with plenty of reverb on the vocals. That thick reverb was a common trait in most of Mayall's records in my collection, which includes pretty much every release he ever made. Peter Green's guitar playing is phenomenal, hinting at the brilliance he would later bring to Fleetwood Mac. I'd love to hear the rhythm section a bit louder, but that's just how it was mixed. All in all, this album is a standout among the greatest blues rock records ever made.
I'm blown away by how amazing my pressing turned out. 10/10, couldn't ask for more.
This one sounds better than my old (now sold) copy from Vinyl Lovers 2011: clearer and more distinct.
Fantastic mono-reissue with an amazing sound. Super quiet, incredibly dynamic, and boasting deep, smooth bass. It's even better than the original first pressing. If you're a fan of Peter Green and love blues, you've got to grab this one, no question!
