Without a doubt, this is my all-time favorite album. As someone who absolutely loves Hendrix, I can confidently say that this posthumous work is right up there with Jimi's greatest albums, possibly even his finest.
The audio quality is phenomenal, these Hendrix family editions are typically top-notch. Got a numbered first pressing with the booklet. Curious why it's numbered, though?
This audio release sounds absolutely fantastic! I'm legally blind, but from what I can make out, I think I've got one of the US pressings. I bought it brand new, 12 years after its original release. I haven't spotted any "Made in Germany" stickers or any other European mentions on it, at least not yet. My copy has an amazing mix, with a powerful, deep bass and the highs and mids sound just right too. I haven't noticed any surface noise on my copy so far. I'm currently halfway through Side 4. I've been purchasing a lot of Hendrix LPs, brand new, since I got back into vinyl last year. Almost all of the 180g pressings I've bought have sounded good. Some are better than others, but I really like the sound of this one. I don't see any mention of Eddie Kramer being involved in this LP release. I'm not sure if he was or not, but it's not advertised like it is on many other Experience Hendrix LLC releases. I think this is a fantastic 2XLP set that sounds, as I said before, spectacular!
For the true fans: there's some great playing here, though it's a bit loose in spots, a enjoyable and engaging listen for Hendrix enthusiasts, but I suspect, like most of his posthumous works, these are likely rough drafts rather than finished pieces.
Within seconds on side one, I was rocking out with my air guitar and grooving. The tunes are amazing. My copy was pretty quiet, though. The audio quality was great, but I found myself craving a bit more after several listens.
