Has anyone else opened this album just to discover that the second record (sides C and D) is gone?
Bought this on Amazon. Totally not on the same page as ohboy. There's a bit more hiss than you'd think for a fresh-out-the-box CD, but it's definitely fine for listening. Hope you like your CD
Amazing album, and a must-own! In my opinion, it's his finest work.
In this day and age, genuine music is so scarce that I reckon folks have forgotten how to react when they encounter an album like Ryan Bingham's Mescalito. Stepping into the shoes of extraordinary yet underrated American artists such as Terry Allen, Joe Ely, Patti Griffin, and Townes Van Zandt, and channeling the spirit of Steve Earle's elder, with a voice as parched and seasoned as the desert wind, and a guitar that weeps notes ever so gently, in perfect harmony with the harmonica, Ryan croons tales from the backroads, bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun on a slightly upturned face, holding wisdom beyond his years. His tunes exude a brilliant country vibe, infused with the depth of the blues, and a hint of Mexican flavor, crafting a traditional sound that pays homage to his influences while forging his unique voice. Ryan's ties to The Black Crowes and The Drive-By Truckers shouldn't mislead you; his music is entirely his own, a testament to his artistic integrity. His vocals and lyrics take center stage, accompanied by the guitar, pedal steel, and mandolin, painting vivid pictures of solitude and the yarns of an old-timer on his porch, eyes as clear as a mountain stream. Ryan Bingham is an artist on the rise, destined to leave his mark on musical history, inspiring future generations to tip their hats in his honor. So, my advice is to tune in now, before you're left playing catch-up on another chapter of authentic Americana.*** The Fun Facts: Mescalito, the album's namesake, is a spineless, dome-shaped cactus (Lophophora williamsii) indigenous to Mexico and the southwestern United States, bearing button-like tubercles that contain the hallucinogen mescaline and are traditionally used in rituals by certain Native American peoples.Review by Jenell Kesler
Recently, I got my hands on this album after stumbling upon Ryan Bingham. What an amazing record it is, and the pressing quality is superb. Plus, the production by Marc Ford from the Black Crowes is fantastic!
