As you can tell, our 'Ig' releases keep dividing music enthusiasts. Over and over, we encounter empty statements like 'best album ever' or 'best song' yada yada yada. I often wonder, how do you even measure the 'best' album or song? It's just not possible, yet people love making such claims. But hey... anyone who refers to such a time-waster as a review clearly has too much free time on their hands. Maybe they should just put on the music and enjoy it. And yes, you can do that with Iggy's latest album. In countless interviews, Iggy keeps emphasizing that it's all about having fun with the music and less about acting 'Mr. Fancy Pants'. Iggy doesn't need to prove anything to anyone, his success speaks for itself, which, as we know, wasn't always the case. Of course, and seriously, who expects Iggy to create a 'super album' at 75? And what would that even look like? A 'Raw Power', 'The Stooges', or 'Fun House' remake? Or perhaps a 'Lust For Life', 'Idiot', or 'Post Pop Depression' remake? Nah, the new album turned out just as I expected, because the previous one, 'Free', already hinted that Iggy isn't interested in constant soft sounds. He's still rocking out, because he's back on tour. Hopefully, he'll bring the fun to Germany too. Who knows how much longer he'll be around...? Physically, 'Every Loser' is fine, the discs are fine, no annoying background noise, maybe a bit too much bass. The 'Blood Red Version' is also well done and looks great. I saw there are some other strictly limited editions online. But I'm not jumping on that hype train anymore, because the prices are just ridiculous and outrageous. I buy records to listen to them, not to brag about owning them. And sadly, many limited editions sound pretty bad, and buying them just to hang on the wall like a '70s teen?! No, I've moved on from that phase. But everyone can decide for themselves, I'd rather save my money and buy other great music. In any case, enjoy the new Iggy record.
This album is fantastic, and the pressing is top-notch. It's refreshing to see Iggy back on a major label, or at least a subsidiary, considering my blue vinyl copy of Free from Loma Vista was incredibly noisy. Ever since Naughty Little Doggie—released way back in the last millennium—I've been a bit nervous about new Iggy albums as a longtime fan. The late '90s and early '00s were filled with too much of the same formula. Even the Stooges reunion studio albums didn't quite hit the mark, especially The Weirdness. 2016's Post Pop Depression was a major comeback, thanks to Josh Homme and his pals from QOTSA and Arctic Monkeys. Josh was Iggy's best collaborator since Bowie—specifically '70s Bowie. This record features a Gen X supergroup, with members from GNR, RHCP, Jane's Addiction, Blink 182, and Foo Fighters. But the real creative force behind it is Andrew Watt, a Millennial who could practically be Iggy's grandson. Clearly, Iggy is inspired by this team. I don't think it's quite as good or consistent as Post Pop, but it's still solid Iggy. If I had to compare it to anything, I'd say it's similar to American Caesar, which is a great listen. It's got a variety of styles and usually rocks pretty hard. The lyrics aren't as strong as Raw Power, Lust For Life, or Post Pop, but they're decent. "New Atlantis" is my favorite track.
The way this poster folds is the dumbest thing I've ever seen, it's covered in at least 36 creases and will likely never look good in a frame. What a stupid marketing move!
Stunning audio 🫡🫡🫡🫡 top-notch pressing, limited to 1000 copies, a true gem🫶 Iggy's back, full stop, fresh vibes
Album was a letdown. Vocals were off, production was poor, lyrics were weak. Only saving grace were the instrumentals, otherwise it'd be a total loss.
