The Choir of Southwark Cathedral

The Choir of Southwark Cathedral is a renowned choral group based in South London, known for its rich history and exceptional musical prowess. Comprising boys and girls aged 8 to 13, along with eight professional singers known as Lay Clerks, the choir delivers captivating performances that resonate deeply with audiences. In addition to the cathedral choir, The Merbecke Choir, named after the English theological writer John Merbecke, is an amateur chamber choir that sings a diverse range of music to a high standard. This choir is unique as it is the only amateur chamber choir attached to a London cathedral and is composed mostly of singers in their twenties. The Choir of Southwark Cathedral is not just a musical ensemble but a vital part of the community, singing regular choral services throughout the week and welcoming visiting choirs to share in their ministry.
