Kurt Tucholsky

Kurt Tucholsky, a brilliant German-Jewish journalist, satirist, and writer, was a prominent voice of the Weimar Republic. Born in 1890 in Berlin, Tucholsky studied law but ultimately dedicated himself to literature, becoming one of the best-paid journalists of his time. Known for his sharp wit and incisive criticism, he wrote under various pseudonyms, including Kaspar Hauser, Peter Panter, Theobald Tiger, and Ignaz Wrobel. His work spanned satirical essays, poetry, and cabaret songs, often serving as a poignant commentary on the political climate of his era. Tucholsky fearlessly criticized the rising Nazi party, making him a target; his works were burned in 1933. A pacifist and democrat, his legacy endures as a fearless voice of reason and resistance.
