  • Poor Quality Pressing

    3 out of 5 stars

The musical show and delight is amazing. It's always a disservice to the creator to present their masterpiece on shoddy pressings. My copy has a cracked rim and is packed with warps all around. The quality of the (still, and perhaps understandably, unnamed) pressing facility is as absent as their quality assurance. Creators should also shoulder more accountability and engage in the quality of the medium their music is delivered on to their audience. Here's hoping for some fortune with replacements. Music/Sound = 4 out of 5. Pressing = 1 out of 5.

  • Mehldau's Tasteful Beatles Tribute

    5 out of 5 stars

Man, play the melody", that's a common request when reharmonizing reaches its height and the tune gets lost. Just how far can a Jazz musician go? There's a thin line between keeping the song intact and creating your own interpretation. Mehldau has the skill and the taste to walk that line. I appreciate the outcome, being a Jazz musician myself and having worked on my own Beatles tribute.

  • Mehldau's Mediocre Beatles

    3 out of 5 stars
    SueqnjFvJeyaxgwMarch 24, 2024United States🇺🇸

Brad Mehldau is an amazing pianist, possibly the top of his age group, but these are quite ordinary classical elevator music takes on Beatles tunes. It's alright, but I don't see it as especially creative or engaging. The album, which I bought, was lacking in depth and just sounded pleasant.

About Brad Mehldau

Brad Mehldau is a renowned American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger, celebrated for his unique blend of jazz exploration, classical romanticism, and pop allure. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1970, Mehldau began his musical journey at the age of six, initially trained in classical piano before delving into jazz during his teens. His career took off in the mid-1990s when he joined saxophonist Joshua Redman's quartet, and he has since led his own trio, known for its intimate and passionate exchanges.

Mehldau's playing is characterized by its contrapuntal style, integrating the art of fugue into improvisation, a nod to his admiration for Bach. His discography is extensive, with notable works including "The Art of the Trio" series, "Highway Rider," and a solo Beatles album. Mehldau's performances are not just musical events but journeys into the depths of emotion and creativity, making him one of the most influential and acclaimed jazz artists of his generation.
