Wir warten auf's Christkind - Die Roten Rosen

Product description

Die Roten Rosen, the alter ego of the renowned German band Die Toten Hosen, return after a decade-long hiatus with "Wir warten auf's Christkind," a festive punk rock album that breathes new life into classic Christmas carols. Released on October 26, 1998, this album is a delightful blend of traditional holiday tunes and the band's signature punk rock energy, making it a unique addition to any Christmas playlist. With a total of 26 tracks, the album spans a generous 75 minutes, ensuring that the holiday spirit lingers long after the last note fades.

The album kicks off with a punk-rock rendition of "Ave Maria," setting the tone for the rest of the record. Die Roten Rosen then tackle beloved classics like "Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht," "Oh Tannenbaum," and "Weihnachtsmann vom Dach," each track infused with the band's distinctive sound. The album also features a medley of popular Christmas songs, including "Jubilo, Oh Du Fröhliche, Vom Himmel hoch..." and a dub version of "Jingle Bells," showcasing the band's versatility and creativity.

"Wir warten auf's Christkind" is not just a collection of Christmas songs; it's a testament to Die Roten Rosen's ability to reinvent and reimagine traditional music. The album's punk rock and hardcore punk influences are evident throughout, making it a standout release in the genre. Whether you're a fan of Die Toten Hosen or simply looking for a unique way to celebrate the holiday season, this album is sure to delight.

This is a 2016 Reissue Remastered released as a 2LP set.

  • Alternative Christmas Album

    3 out of 5 stars
    labwve_njSeptember 13, 2025Deutschland🇩🇪

Always these boring Christmas albums! Finally, there's an alternative to the typical Christmas rock samplers: Die Roten Rosen or Die Toten Hosen. Whether you should play this CD when Grandma and Grandpa visit is up to you. Even I would try to play along with the song suggestions. It's practical that the songs are quite short. Some songs stand out a bit, as they are interpreted too extremely, like "O Christmas Tree" with a drunk voice and "Still, Still, Still" with too loud a voice. And with "Softly Falls the Snow," you can't quite tell what kind of snow is actually falling. With "Merry X-Mas Everybody" and "Happy X-Mas (War is Over)," you can clearly tell that the English-language songs create a lot more atmosphere. It's also nice that the traditional songs like "Auld Lang Syne," "The Little Drummer Boy," and "White Christmas" weren't forgotten. If "Year After Year" were sung like this in church, younger people would volunteer to go more often. Of course, Die Roten Rosen give the songs their own style, but they also introduce me to previously unknown, yet beautiful songs like "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" and "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day." The original compositions "Santa Claus from the Roof," "Happy Holiday," and "Christmas at the Brandts" even have depressive, socially critical lyrics, which I really like, as Christmas isn't a festival of love/joy for everyone. Well, that's it then. It's just a shame that, like all other Christmas CDs, this one too eventually becomes boring by the 12th song at the latest.

Precisely what I needed. It's the perfect contrast to Bad Religion's Christmas Songs.
