Wildflowers, Vol.1 - Kurt Elling

Product description

In the span of just one week, jazz virtuoso Kurt Elling, in collaboration with the talented pianist Sullivan Fortner, crafted and released "Wildflowers, Vol. 1," a captivating six-song EP that showcases their extraordinary chemistry and musical prowess. Recorded and mixed at the renowned Sear Sound Studio C in New York City on August 26, 2024, this album is a testament to spontaneous creativity and artistic synergy.

"Wildflowers, Vol. 1" is a delightful blend of vocal jazz and instrumental jazz, spanning a concise yet engaging 32 minutes. The album opens with the playful "Paper Doll," followed by the enchanting "A Memory of Enchantment," and continues to explore a range of moods and melodies with tracks like "After the Storm," the romantic "A Wish (Valentine)," the reflective "Things Ain't What They Used to Be," and the hauntingly beautiful "Ana Maria's Song." Each track is a masterclass in improvisation and emotional expression, highlighting Elling's signature vocal agility and Fortner's nuanced piano work.

The album's cover art, created by James Powditch, adds a visual layer of intrigue, complementing the musical journey within. Released under the Big Shoulders Records label, "Wildflowers, Vol. 1" is a spontaneous yet polished collection that underscores Kurt Elling's status as a jazz innovator. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to his work, this EP offers a fresh and invigorating listening experience.
