Product description

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Carl Maria von Weber's "Der Freischütz, Op. 77, J. 277," a timeless masterpiece of German Romantic opera. Released on September 10, 2005, by Andromeda, this album captures the essence of Weber's iconic work, performed live with unparalleled passion and precision.

Spanning a captivating 1 hour and 55 minutes, this album is a comprehensive journey through the three acts of "Der Freischütz." The performance is brought to life by the Vienna Philharmonic and the Wiener Staatsopernchor, two of the most revered names in classical music. The overture, conducted by Herbert von Karajan, sets the stage with its dramatic and evocative melodies, a testament to Weber's genius.

The opera itself is a tale of love, superstition, and the supernatural, set in the forests of Bohemia. The libretto, written by Johann Friedrich Kind, is sung in Italian, adding a unique layer to the performance. Each track is a gem, from the lively "Viktoria! Viktoria!" to the haunting "Schweig! Damit dich niemand warnt!" and the triumphant "Was gleicht wohl auf Erden."

This album is not just a collection of songs; it's a complete opera experience. The live recording allows you to feel the energy and emotion of the performance, as if you were in the audience. Whether you're a seasoned opera enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is a must-listen. It's a chance to experience the magic of Carl Maria von Weber's "Der Freischütz" in all its glory.
