As a devoted Björk enthusiast, I typically purchase every new release in her catalog, and there's always a fresh, exciting package to add to my collection. "Volta" spawned numerous singles, all presented in deluxe multiformat editions. Naturally, they became part of my collection upon release. After the "Volta" promotion period, "Voltaïc" was announced, offering a live film from the Volta tour. Fantastic! However, as much as I am a collector, I don't repurchase the same content. If an edition includes new tracks, I don't want to buy them again on a different release. The major issue with "Voltaïc" is that the only editions available in Europe came with four discs, essentially compiling everything released previously (all remixes and music videos, plus bonus videos). In other words, to get the live DVD and the live studio album, you also had to repurchase everything you'd bought since "Volta" launched. Suddenly, all five singles I'd purchased became redundant. A real treat for those who hadn't bought the singles. A rip-off for everyone else. US fans had the chance to buy an edition with only new material, and that's how it should have been everywhere, not just in the USA. "Voltaïc" in its four-disc edition remains the biggest marketing blunder in Björk's discography.
This is an awesome collection of tracks from what might just be my all-time favorite Bjork period. Seriously, I'm a huge fan of each and every disc.
