David Friesen is a renowned American jazz bassist, pianist, composer, and educator, born in Tacoma, Washington, and raised in Seattle. With a career spanning over six decades, Friesen's journey began at the age of five when he first encountered jazz music in his home. His professional career took off while serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, where he played with legendary musicians like John Handy and Marian McPartland. Known for his technical prowess and intuitive playing on both double bass and electric upright bass, Friesen's music is deeply rooted in sensitivity, integrity, and a pursuit of excellence.
