Exceptionally crafted. Premium quality poster and cover. Gorgeous, uniformly colored vinyl with a tidy and smooth label. Soooo much better than those Mötley Crüe bootlegs that have been showing up lately.
Before, it was NBLP 7225
As a KISS enthusiast since '76, I'm quite fond of this album, with a few caveats. Let me start with the pressing. The audio quality is fantastic, and the vinyl is remarkably quiet overall. The music itself is top-notch pop, featuring tunes that are incredibly catchy and cater to the more youthful appeal that KISS had cultivated through their merchandising and branding at the time. When it dropped, I was all over everything KISS, and I genuinely enjoyed their evolving sound with each new release. However, in my opinion, the first 5-6 studio albums truly embody the essence of KISS. There's a common misconception that KISS is all show and no substance, but I wholeheartedly disagree. KISS crafted outstanding rock and roll music. Albums like Dynasty, The Elder, and this one, Unmasked, demonstrate KISS's versatility as a musical act. I'd even argue that they surpassed many of their peers because they could seamlessly transition between genres and produce chart-topping hits. If you're a die-hard fan of the classic KISS sound from the '70s, this album might not resonate with you. But if you appreciate good music and are on the lookout for a solid pop album, this one's a winner.
Isn't this just a Re-Release? Since it's on Casablanca from Mercury Label
The present US version of Kiss' "Unmasked" boasts exceptional production standards. The artwork on the cover is faithful to the original, and the inner sleeve is unmistakably the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab's, or at the very least, an excellent replica. As advertised, the audio quality is top-notch for audiophiles. It's a shame not every record released today is crafted with such meticulous care. Despite the ongoing, unfortunately polarized views among die-hard Kiss fans, I still hold "Unmasked" in high regard. The fact that this release is also available in Germany will delight collectors. The typography no longer seems to infringe upon the protection of the Constitution. Kiss is certainly not associated with fascists. I'm hopeful that the "Dynasty" I've also purchased maintains a similar level of quality. I'll share my thoughts on that in the coming days.
