Over the span of ten years (2008-2018), the UNI triptych stands as one of my all-time favorite electronic projects. It's stark, concentrated, resolute, meticulously crafted, self-assured, genuine, and open. This is the kind of sound I'd have loved to hear from Nine Inch Nails' instrumental releases (like GHOSTS), and I'm sorry they didn't explore this direction. Alva Noto is clearly a dedicated artist, fully devoted to his art. As for this particular pressing, I've noticed quite a bit of hiss in the right channel, but since crackle and distortion are part of the intended sound, it's not too bothersome. The mastering and lacquer work by Calyx is exceptional, and the pressing by Optimal is top-notch -- entirely produced in Germany.
