Product description

Dive into the rich, rhythmic world of U-Roy with his self-titled album, a seminal work in the reggae genre released in 1974. U-Roy, born Ewart Beckford, was a pioneer of toasting, a melodic style of vocal delivery that laid the groundwork for modern rap and hip-hop. This album is a testament to his innovative spirit and timeless artistry, featuring a blend of reggae, roots reggae, rocksteady, dub, ragga, and lovers rock.

The album kicks off with "Honey Come Forward (Honey Come Back)" and takes you on a journey through tracks like "Treasure Isle Skank," "This Station Rule the Nation," and "Drive Her Home." Each song showcases U-Roy's distinctive vocal style and his ability to craft memorable, groovy tunes. Standout tracks such as "Words of Wisdom" and "Wake the Town" highlight his lyrical prowess and rhythmic ingenuity, while "My Girl" and "Love I Tender" offer a softer, more romantic side to his music.

U-Roy's influence on the reggae scene is undeniable, and this album captures the essence of his early career. The expanded version includes additional tracks and versions, providing a comprehensive look at his work during this pivotal period. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to U-Roy's music, this album is a must-listen for anyone interested in the roots and evolution of reggae.

This LP was released in 1981.

I'm curious, where did you find that the track A1 is named "Forward Forever"? Every other version of this album, even the same UK pressing but with fixed labels, lists it as either "Honey Come Back" or "Honey Come Forward", definitely not "Forward Forever".

Woooowww! This album is just insane! One of the first DJs to ever do his thing, spitting rhymes over some of the baddest early rock steady beats! Absolute legend stuff, man!
