Eternal American Masterpiece Rest In Peace Steve AlbiniTWEEZ by SLINTTouch And Go RecordsUSA
R.I.P. Steve Albini, but SLINT lives on and they're incredible! No need for more words. Snag this 35th anniversary 2×LP, pressed on 180 gram vinyl and remastered – it's a masterpiece in design and layout. The 'Tweethan' Mix is a real treat, especially for those of us who were early 90's SLINT fans. The idea of a new 'old' mix is genius, giving this underground gem a fresh lease on life. Over the years, uncovering more about these enigmatic guys has been a blast! Watching the breadcrumbs documentary and now learning about Ethan's less-than-thrilled take on the original Albini-produced cult favorite, and how he'd tweak or untweak TWEEZ to his liking, it's all fascinating. This second record, in its new mix, is just another amazing output from these Kentucky rock wizards. The newer remastered version of TWEEZ sounds vibrant and clear, with a bass tone that's more defined. I still have my original Touch and Go copy to compare, but all versions are awesome – TWEEZ melts faces from the first listen. Grab this version and own a stunning piece of modern American art and culture. This record changed music in so many ways and paved the path for countless others. It's truly timeless, a classic that stands the test of time.
Awesome and lively recording, The sound of Track B2 (Darlene) is phenominal….must-have…highly reccomended!
The vinyl I received was flawless and quiet straight from the packaging! No crackles, no dust, and thankfully no issues. The sound quality is fantastic too - really punchy and packed with deep bass, way better than the original version. If you're into the band, this is a definite must-have. 10/10.
Fans who've listened to the Los Fabulosos live bootleg will grasp what the Tweethan mix aims to achieve. It's a much grittier, more instant rendition of the tracks and likely mirrors what Slint sounded like back in 1987. Albini mentions in the liner notes that he sought to capture the essence of the band, not just their music, and I think that's a commendable objective he nailed, but I get why Ethan Buckler opted for something distinct. Each mix complements the other - the Tweethan mix offers listeners a deeper dive into the songs' structure and emotion, which in turn highlights and sharpens Albini's creative decisions on the original album. In short, the Albini mix is arguably more comprehensive, while the Tweethan mix lets the songs shine individually. Absolutely worth purchasing not just for band enthusiasts but for fans of this genre of rock music in general. T&G have been consistently delivering with their pressings for a while now, and this release is no exception; it's flat, silent, and boasts excellent dynamics. The gatefold cover and printed inner sleeves are also top-notch in quality. Can't recommend this enough.
