Product description

Albert Mangelsdorff's 'Trilogue' is a captivating live album that showcases the artist's mastery of free jazz and avant-garde sounds. Recorded at the Berlin Jazz Days in 1976, this album features Mangelsdorff on trombone, alongside the talented Jaco Pastorius on bass and Alphonse Mouzon on drums. The result is a sparse, yet textured performance that demands attention and rewards repeated listens.

With its memorable melodies and improvisational flair, 'Trilogue' is an album that will stay with you long after the music ends. Tracks like 'Trilogue' and 'Ant Step On an Elephant Toe' feature hauntingly beautiful melodies that will linger in your mind, while the group's improvisational sections showcase their exceptional chemistry and musicianship.

Originally released in 1977 on MPS Records, 'Trilogue' has been reissued as part of the label's 'The Jazz Edition' series, introducing this classic album to a new generation of jazz enthusiasts. With a duration of 43 minutes, this album is a concise yet powerful statement of Mangelsdorff's artistry, and its influence can be heard in genres ranging from free jazz and avant-garde to krautrock and beyond.

Released on 28 August 2014, this reissue of 'Trilogue' is a must-listen for fans of Albert Mangelsdorff and anyone interested in exploring the cutting edge of jazz and experimental music. So sit back, immerse yourself in the sounds of 'Trilogue', and experience the innovative spirit of one of jazz's most visionary artists.

This LP was released in 1981.

  • Jazz Trio's Stellar Live Show

    5 out of 5 stars

This is a fantastic live performance featuring three exceptional musicians who came together for a unique show. Despite having only a few practice sessions before hitting the stage, you'd barely notice their lack of extensive preparation (except for a brief, awkard moment when Pastorious is left soloing alone). The setlist is incredibly varied, ranging from free jazz, post-bop to funk. Mangelsdorff's compositions are incredibly catchy, and his technique—like playing chords and singing simultaneously—is as impressive as ever. Pastorious shines, and Mouzon's ability to react in milliseconds to his bandmates' tonal and rythmic shifts is truly astonishing. The recording and pressing quality is top-notch for a live album. My only minor complaint is that the stage seems to lean a bit center-left.

This is a fantastic live performance featuring three outstanding musicians who came together for a unique show. Despite having only a few practice sessions before hitting the stage, you'd barely notice their lack of extensive preparation (except for a brief, awkard moment when Pastorious is left soloing alone by the band). The setlist is incredibly varied, ranging from free jazz, post-bop to funk. Mangelsdorff's compositions are incredibly catchy, and his technique—playing chords, singing while playing, etc.—is as impressive as ever. Pastorious shines, and Mouzon's ability to react in miliseconds to his bandmates' tonal and rythmic shifts is truly remarkable. The recording and pressing quality is excellent for a live album. My only minor issue is that the stage leans a bit center-left.
