With a 24/192 PCM source like this, it's hard to beat this SACD. The multichannel mix is absolutely my all-time favorite, crafted by the original audio engineer who worked on the stereo mix way back in '75. In short, this is a must-own disc.
I absolutely adore this album. It truly captures their essence from the 70s. My top pick is 'Big Ten Inch Record', it's just insane.
I've considered swapping this pressing out for a US first edition, but they don't seem to be highly praised, and the slightly superior one (German first) is only so-so. This is an absolutely stunning pressing - DSD or not (I'm pretty sure it is DSD). I wouldn't even trade this for the newer, allegedly better Capitol reissue. In my opinion, this meets audiophile standards. Ryan Smith and Optimal did a fantastic job on this! 12/2024 UPDATE: The more I notice the declining quality of new record pressings, the more these excellent sounding, completely silent earlier reissues shine. This is as quiet as a CD and mastered beautifully. I'm baffled how 129 collectors rate a release like this an average of 4.42/5.00. Did I really stumble upon the perfect pressing?
This pressing is more than alright. The bass in the intro to Sweet Emotion hits even better on vinyl, it's a real treat. You won't be looking for a superior copy anytime soon.
Picked up this new version, it sounds amazing. It stays faithful to the original, with the bass guitar sounding crisp and punchy.
