Product description

"Toward The Margins" is a captivating exploration into the avant-garde jazz realm, crafted by the innovative Evan Parker Electro-Acoustic Ensemble. Released in 1997 under the prestigious ECM New Series label, this album is a testament to Evan Parker's mastery of free jazz and experimental improvisation. Recorded in 1996 at Gateway Studios in Surrey, England, the album spans a full hour of intricate and thought-provoking compositions.

The ensemble, featuring Evan Parker on soprano saxophone, Philipp Wachsmann on electric violin, and Barry Guy on double bass, delves into a world of sonic possibilities. The tracklist, including pieces like "Turbulent Mirror," "The Regenerative Landscape (For AMM)," and "Born Cross-Eyed (Remembering Fuller)," showcases the group's ability to blend raw energy with delicate precision. Each track is a journey in itself, offering a unique blend of electronic and acoustic elements that push the boundaries of traditional jazz.

"Toward The Margins" is not just an album; it's an experience. The ensemble's improvisational skills shine through, creating a dynamic and ever-evolving soundscape. The album's experimental nature makes it a compelling listen for those interested in the avant-garde and free jazz genres. About Evan Parker

Evan Parker is a pioneering British saxophonist renowned for his innovative approach to free improvisation. Born in Bristol in 1944, Parker began playing the saxophone at the age of 14 and has since become a seminal figure in the European free music scene. Known for his distinctive sound and fluid development of multiphonic techniques, Parker has consistently pushed the boundaries of what is possible on the tenor and soprano saxophones. His collaborations, notably with the Spontaneous Music Ensemble and a vast array of percussionists and electronic musicians, have solidified his status as one of the most influential and recognizable artists in avant-garde and free jazz. Parker's music is not just about notes; it's about creating a constantly evolving sonic landscape that challenges and engages the listener.
