Product description

The Doobie Brothers' sophomore effort, Toulouse Street, marked a pivotal moment in the band's career, released on 1 July 1972 by Warner Records. This 10-track album, boasting a duration of 34 minutes, is a masterclass in blending classic rock, soft rock, and southern rock genres. With the addition of new bassist Tiran Porter and second drummer Michael Hossack, the band's sound was augmented, creating a unique and captivating listening experience.

Toulouse Street features some of The Doobie Brothers' most iconic tracks, including 'Listen to the Music' and 'Jesus Is Just Alright with Me', which became the band's first two hits. The album's tracklist, which includes 'Rockin' Down the Highway', 'Mamaloi', and 'Disciple', showcases the band's ability to craft infectious, laid-back tunes that have stood the test of time.

Produced in collaboration with manager Bruce Cohn, producer Ted Templeman, and engineer Donn Landee, Toulouse Street was recorded at Warner Bros Studio (Amigo Studios) in North Hollywood, CA, with some tracks laid down at Wally Heider Studio in San Francisco, CA. The result is an album that exudes a sense of warmth and camaraderie, with each track complementing the others to create a cohesive and engaging whole.

The Doobie Brothers' Toulouse Street is a testament to the band's perseverance and dedication to their craft. Following their debut album, which failed to gain significant traction, the band could have easily been discouraged. Instead, they returned stronger than ever, with a newfound sense of purpose and a sound that would go on to define a generation of music lovers. Toulouse Street is an album that continues to delight audiences to this day, and its influence can still be felt in the music world.

This 2025 Reissue Remastered Special Edition 2LP set is housed in a gatefold, pressed on 180g vinyl.

  • Doobies Vinyl Revival Triumphs

    5 out of 5 stars
    jfuuvyfiDecember 29, 2025United States🇺🇸

My first concert was the Doobies, way back in 8th grade. Now, at over 60, with a pretty good setup, I'm let down by my old vinyl records of theirs - they sound dull, mushy, and muted. I'm over the moon that MOFI has been bringing the Doobies' classic albums to life. This pressing is fantastic - it's quiet, with strong mids and highs, and a solid bass line. Grab this one and have a blast!

  • Fantastic Album, Best Version

    5 out of 5 stars
    tizktpeowfiqDecember 22, 2025United States🇺🇸

This is an absolutely fantastic sounding record. I was really let down by MFSL and their whole digital step mess. I, like many others, felt tricked. But if you're up for giving it another go, this is a great place to start. It's hands down the best version of this album out there. In my opinion.

  • Quadios Shine on 7.1.6

    4 out of 5 stars
    NrugwafiSeptember 12, 2025United States🇺🇸

Man, these Quadios rock on my 7.1.6 setup! I was actually the first among my buddies and me to snag a quadraphonic 4-channel receiver. Then there's those kids whose parents just buy them whatever they want. I'm kinda glad that back then, I had to work for it.

  • Enchanting Audio Value

From the moment that guitar strum hits, you just know you're in for a treat. The audio quality on this copy is absolutely enchanting, making me hit replay time and time again. It's ridiculously good value for money.

  • Doobie Brothers' Radiant Debut

    4 out of 5 stars
    xkmaansuazeMarch 29, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

Upon my return from Viet Nam, this album hit the scene, and I was instantly captivated by tracks like "Listen to the Music." It was a refreshing change from the psychedelic and folk tunes that had been my soundtrack, offering a radiant, intoxicating escape. The Doobie Brothers' debut had failed to make an impact on the charts, but they sensed they were onto something extraordinary. Unable to wait for the public to catch up, they revamped their lineup with Tiran Porter on bass and expanded their sound with additional horns and a second drummer. This evolution gave their music a richer, more resonant quality that perfectly complemented their well-crafted songs. The Doobies were a band that defied easy categorization, blending elements of rock, soul, country, and pop into a sound that was both bright and brimming with enthusiasm. "Toulouse Street" was a testament to their consistency and originality, effortlessly blending mellow and rocking elements with flawless guitar work and harmonious vocals. The interplay between acoustic and electric guitars created a flowing symmetry that wrapped around their dynamic blues-tinged solos, making it impossible not to be swept away. As Billboard magazine put it, "The Doobie Brothers' music pivots on an uncontrived musical lightness and a refreshing amount of sheer vitality and buoyant engaging spirits. The overall feel is slightly countrified, good time music." For fans seeking the ultimate recording experience, Mobile Fidelity released the album on SACD, delivering stunning clarity and transparency. The low noise level allowed for a deeper appreciation of the dual lead guitars, vocals, and drums, making it a strong contender for top ratings. Though the $39US price tag in 2009 was steep, the sound quality was undeniably amazing. *** The Fun Facts: The album's title was inspired by Toulouse Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans, once the heart of the music and prostitution scene. The album photographs were taken at a former brothel on Toulouse Street. Interestingly, according to an interview with co-founder Tom Johnston, the band's name was coined by a roommate who joked, "Why don't you call yourself the Doobie Brothers because you're always smoking’.” There was also a rumor that the Doobie Brothers were a Hell’s Angels band, though this was likely due to their northern California roots.
