Product description

Immerse yourself in the hauntingly beautiful world of Toshio Hosokawa's "Futari shizuka: The Maiden from the Sea," a profound and experimental opera that transcends time and resonates with the timeless plight of refugees worldwide. Released on June 13, 2025, under the prestigious Naxos label, this single-act opera is a masterful blend of ancient tragedy and contemporary relevance, lasting a captivating 1 hour and 5 minutes.

Comprising nine tracks, the opera unfolds like a poignant narrative, beginning with the evocative "Ceremony" and delving into the intricate, sorrowful tale of "The Maiden from the Sea." Each track, from the prelude "Sorrow Sea" to the poignant "Where Do I Come from? - Far Across the Ocean, There Is War... (Helen)," is a testament to Hosokawa's mastery of experimental music, weaving a tapestry of sound that is both ethereal and deeply moving.

Performed by an ensemble of talented artists including Jun Märkl, Ilse Eerens, and Ryoko Aoki, this album is a collaboration that brings to life the tragic and resonant story of Futari Shizuka. The Hague Philharmonic's contribution adds a layer of orchestral depth, making this a must-experience for fans of classical and experimental music alike. Hosokawa's work is not just an opera; it's a powerful commentary on the human condition, a symphony of sorrow and hope that echoes through the ages.
