Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music with Roger Desormiere's 1953 album, "Tommasini, Scarlatti: Extraits de la suite des Femmes de bonne humeur - Poulenc: Les biches, extraits." This captivating collection features a blend of operatic and classical genres, showcasing the brilliance of Domenico Scarlatti's sonatas and Francis Poulenc's compositions.

The album opens with a suite from "The Good-Humoured Ladies," a delightful arrangement of Scarlatti's sonatas, performed with precision and grace by the Orchestre de la under the skilled direction of Roger Desormiere. Each movement, from the lively "Presto" to the playful "Cat's Fugue" finale, offers a glimpse into the intricate and joyful world of 18th-century music.

Following this, the album presents selections from Poulenc's "Les biches," a charming ballet that blends French sophistication with rhythmic vitality. Desormiere's interpretation brings out the nuances of each piece, from the delicate "Adagietto" to the energetic "Rag-mazurka," making this a standout performance.

With a total runtime of 37 minutes, this mono version album is a concise yet rich exploration of classical and operatic masterpieces. Desormiere's expertise and the orchestra's superb execution make this a memorable listening experience for any classical music enthusiast.

About Roger Desormiere

Roger Désormière, born in Vichy, France, in 1898, was a pioneering French conductor whose career spanned the first half of the 20th century. A graduate of the Paris Conservatoire, Désormière began his musical journey as a flautist in various Parisian orchestras before transitioning to conducting. He made his debut with the Concerts Pleyel in 1921 and quickly established himself as a champion of contemporary composers. Désormière's repertoire included works by Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Poulenc, Auric, and Sauguet, among others. Known for his clear-headed and objective conducting style, Désormière's recordings are celebrated for their lack of exaggeration and impeccable taste. His post-war recording career further solidified his legacy as one of the most important French conductors of his time. Désormière's contributions to the world of opera and classical music continue to inspire and influence musicians and audiences alike.
