About Lasse Thoresen

Lasse Thoresen, born in Oslo in 1949, is a distinguished Norwegian composer renowned for his innovative approach to contemporary classical music. His compositions are deeply rooted in the folk music traditions of Scandinavia and beyond, seamlessly blending these influences with elements of spectral music, musique concrète, and Harry Partch's tonal system, "Just Intonation." Thoresen's extensive academic career includes teaching composition, electro-acoustic music, and sonology at the Norwegian Academy of Music since 1975, where he has inspired generations of students. Beyond his teaching, Thoresen's own work is a testament to his belief that music should express human ideas and emotions, making each piece a profound journey into the depths of musical expression. His extensive discography and ongoing commissioned works continue to captivate audiences and solidify his status as a leading figure in modern classical music.
