About Daniel Erdmann

Daniel Erdmann is a versatile German saxophonist and composer whose career spans across the globe, blending influences from his upbringing in both Germany and the United States. Born in Wolfsburg, Erdmann began his musical journey on the alto saxophone at the age of eleven, later switching to the tenor saxophone during his high school years in the U.S. His formal training at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin under the guidance of renowned musicians like Gebhard Ullmann and Aki Takase laid the foundation for his distinctive sound.

Erdmann is known for his innovative approach to jazz, seamlessly weaving together elements of free jazz, avant-garde, and traditional jazz. He has founded and performed with several notable bands, including Velvet Revolution and Das Kapital, earning critical acclaim and numerous awards such as the SWR Jazzpreis and the Deutscher Jazzpreis. His collaborations with musicians like Theo Ceccaldi and Jim Hart have resulted in original compositions that showcase his unique musical vision.

In addition to his work in jazz, Erdmann has a deep passion for Romantic and Neo-Romantic orchestral music, often composing pieces that highlight the expressive capabilities of the viola.
